this vanity has almost killed me...i have finally finished the bottom part...the only thing i have to do now is the mirror..this post will show how after almost a year, i am still alive...
the day i found it at the good will..oh how i was excited! |
this is the point where i want to shoot myself...after being so excited about this piece, i have to say i was ready to get rid of it...i was semi new to painting when i started this...instead of doing research on a product, i went with the first review i saw..its was a paint from lowes that said you didn't have to prime...i lightly sanded and slapped the paint on...after several coats, i decided that i didn't like the flat sheen of the paint...i decided to distress it...the first swoop of the sander and the whole side peeled off...now, you can imagine what i was thinking...i immediately put the sander down and walked away...i probably said a few choice words too...this piece sat on my patio for at least 9 months...it almost got ruined from the weather...some of the drawers warped... |
i never strip a piece of furniture...there is no point in it to me...i do sand though..since i am usually painting everything i do, that is something that is not important to me...this paint was so awful that i knew if i didn't get all of it removed it would ruin my future work... |
here is the first coat of paint...i mixed up my own chalk paint...i love the way this paint sticks to wood..i have even used it on none wood pieces...its a little tricky at first but once you understand how it works and how to mix it can be a real advantage...i also cant afford annie sloan chalk paint...i also put a dark stain on the top.. |
here are the drawers finished...i used cute little glass knobs from hobby lobby... |
finally...the end...white homemade chalk paint...distressed with wax on top...dark walnut stain with wipe on poly for the top... |
be on the look out for part 2...when i finish the mirror i will post that
CREATING LOVE AND JOY
