Side Table

sometimes you find things when you aren't looking...the day i found this piece i was taking my daughter to her friends house...when i pulled up in the driveway, this baby was sitting beside the trash can...to the friend, this was just an old junky table...to me it was my new treasure...

the day i got the table...i put it in my suv...finally it comes in handy...

did some sanding...cleaned off the handle..this piece is solid cherry....nice piece...

i decided to paint inside of the drawer..i NEVER do this...sometimes i line with paper but never paint..i just liked the crisp white look

spray painting in the house since the weather stinks here in georgia....this is not recommended...since it was such a small piece i did it in this box...it will leave over spray if you are doing a lot of painting...
after...inside does not make for great photos...i didn't enjoy doing the zebra...stenciling is not my thing...my daughter loves it and thats all that matters...i had several places that bled through but it kinda blends in
after...the little carved flower hardly shows...now i wish i would have done something different with it...
beside...before and after...
a bit of iphone effect...

Red Sofa Table (Friday, October 21, 2011)

this post is copied from previous blog

Friday, October 21, 2011

my husband and i are complete opposites...which is good i guess because i always heard that opposites attract...when we met, i had a living room full of rooms to go furniture....you know, the kind that comes in a package...you buy a sofa, chairs, end tables, and sofa table...no payments due for 2 years..LOL...i bought the furniture not really thinking about the future or if my taste might change...the sofa is navy blue, the chairs are khaki, and the tables are light wood....or were light wood...about 2 days before our wedding, he decided that he couldn't live with the light wood...i had enough knowledge to know that the wood needed to be sanded...we used pieces of sandpaper by hand...not quite enough sanding to get the glossy finish off...we slapped some dark cherry stain on and 3 years later its finally scratching off....now that i'm a little smarter, i know that the process was all wrong...

one day i will learn to make sure i have my camera ready...i get too excited!! see the light wood? thats the original color...very, light oak...the dark is the cherry stain...i never liked it....sometimes you do things for the person you love...if you look really close, in the background is my "new" sewing machine!!! so excited about it...be on the look out for that post...

here is the back...some kilz on top

here is the RED...that's pretty bright huh? my girls were kinda unsure of the color...i thought jeff would hate it...he loves it!!

here is the finished table...i used a dark stain to glaze it with...let that dry a bit and then put a coat of wax on it...i left the handles the same color...i thought they looked ok...this table will be used on my gallery wall...i'm trying a new look in my living room...i'll be mixing and matching our GA stuff with some of our personal things...should have that done in the next few days....

here is the table with the georgia print above it..i really don't care for georgia stuff, but since he likes it then i guess i can live with it...this wouldn't be my first choice of decorating but he deserves a room with his stuff, right?

Plant Updo

Its been raining here in georgia...which is good for plants but not so good for me...it means i can't do anything outside...i'm babysitting today so i don't have much time for craftiness but i did want to share this very small project...

last summer i went on a spray paint binge and sprayed almost all of my pots...i know it looks hideous now, but really you should have seen it before...very bad..i probably would have thrown this plant out by now but it was from my grandmothers funeral...she died around 1994 and this plant is still hanging on...
i was thinking there had to be something i could do to improve it a little...so i added some sisal roping...not the most glamorous thing...much better though...

Broken Chair...Headed For Trash

anybody have a teenager? how about a teenager that has a party while you are out of town? or one that has a party and breaks a chair? i'm sure i'm not the only one...kids do stupid things all the time...and i really liked this chair..

here is the chair that i dug out of the storage building...around here we tend to pile all of our junk in the building til we get ready to throw it out...i knew that it could be fixed...i just kept putting it off...do other people do that?

i used wood screws and wood glue to get it put back together...i always forget to take pictures in the right order...i just get too excited...i've been using these bed risers to do my painting on...they work perfect
the foot rest...it wasn't broken
here it is all finished...i painted it the same color as i painted my outdoor end table...if you would like to read about it click here...
trying really hard to get my porch spruced up..we still don't have the cover off of our pool yet...just so much i want to do and not enough time
another before and after...i'm in love once again :)

Half Barrel Pond

a few years ago i purchased a whiskey barrel to put a fish pond in...we had just put a cover on our patio and i wanted to hear water while i sat outside...it didn't work so well...from where the pond was it didn't get enough sun...i moved it last year in the middle of summer but never filled it back up...all of my fish and plants had died so i just gave up...

just a standard 1/2 whiskey barrel...you can use these without a liner but i purchased one because i have bad luck and i figured it would leak...i think the barrels are around $30 at home depot...
just a shot of how it looks before
another shot...had a bunch of leaves and trash in bottom...aqua gravel left from the plants that died...found a lizard in the bottom but he got sucked up by the vacuum...LOL

i have more plans for it...i will make another post when i do some more things to it...just couldn't wait to share...i had a visitor from a blog today called ADD housewife...what  a good name! even though i have never been diagnosed with it, sometimes i think i have it...maybe thats why i have so many things going...

Bleach Tshirt

recently while i was visiting the dollar tree, i picked up a couple of tshirts...i have been wanting to try something crafty with bleach...hannah marie is into tie dye shirts so i knew that she would be happy with what ever i came up with...the first thought i had was to do some type of stencil with maybe her name...i came across this post at I Love To Create and decided to give it a try...if i ruined it, the shirt was only $1...

i started out with just a plain tshirt...for some reason the neck was so small...probably why it was at dollar tree in the first place...i just cut it out around the seam...
i took some painters tape and applied it to the shirt in the design i wanted...i didn't want to spend alot of time on it just because i had a fear of it not working...the shirt that is posted on the I Love To Create blog had a bit more detailing...i then took a spray bottle with bleach in it and sprayed the whole shirt...i didn't dilute it any
the shirt...happiness...the end ....
